After spending a ton of time on the phone with Best Buy and HSBC I find out that my tv is no longer under warranty. So I decided to contact a local tv repair guy. Then this happened:

I thought small “mom and pops” were the good guys

Unbelievably bad service. The owner John seemed like a nice guy but works very quickly to rip you off. He even used anti semitic and derogatory in order to get his way.

His service was terrible. He didn’t do anything and stole $100 from me in an effort to collect on his diagnostic testing.

This was a horrible experience and has taught to only work with people who have been specifically recommended to me from people I trust.

Please do not use this shop to perform any repairs on any tv’s you own.

Think Vitamin and Future of Web Design Conference

Posted by Jesse Friedman | Posted in Technology | Posted on June 2, 2010

I’m really looking forward to the Future of Web Design conference this year. I have heard a ton about it from previous years which has only built up my expectations. I haven’t yet found a web design and development conference I’m completed dedicated too.

I’ve been to An Event Apart, Web 2.0 Expo and a few others and have been left wanting. So I hope the crew at Think Vitamin don’t let me down this year. Learn more about FoWD Con here: http://futureofwebdesign.com/

In the meantime Think Vitamin sent me an email/newsletter with some links to some awesome articles that I thought I would share with everyone.

This is a Test of Windows Live Writer

Posted by Jesse Friedman | Posted in Technology | Posted on March 24, 2010

Honestly I didn’t even know that this program existed but it seems pretty cool. It quickly integrated with WordPress on my server and is making life pretty easy so far.

It appears to have simple solutions for editing and adding content locally. I do not however see any controls or functionality to control commenting.

Clicking on “Mange Blog” or “Dashboard” opens into my default browser.

There are tabs at the bottom to allow for easy view switching.

Below the tabs I can easily add my categories, tags and publish date.

Thoughts

Adding links, photos, tables and even maps is relatively easy.

Will Windows Live Writer replace the need to sign into WordPress? NO.

It’s lacking commenting control, custom values, plugin input and a few other things. It also adds a lot of   into the html, but that’s Microsoft’ s WYSIWG for you.

I’ll give it a try, seems like it’ll be great to use when I might not have an internet connection, so I can save my work for later.

How I Got Out of my Wireless Contract Penalty Free

Posted by Jesse Friedman | Posted in Business,Technology | Posted on March 8, 2010

Flashback to Aug, 2008

I’m standing in an AT&T Wireless store, purchasing my first iPhone and signing up for a 2 year contract. A few months later my 2G iPhone is stolen out of my gym locker. Now because there is no insurance on iPhones and the 2G was discontinued in that short period of time I have a choice; buy a 2G from eBay or other site or upgrade to the 3G. Upgrading to the 3G requires a new 2 year activation and an increase in my monthly costs. In November of 2008 I renewed my contract and bought the 3G iPhone.

Today

I still have that same 3G iPhone but it’s all beat to hell. Only one speaker works, the “vibrate” button fell off and the battery life is poor. So now I’m looking at either purchasing the 3GS (which I’m sure will be discontinued this summer) or get a new phone and plan with Verizon.

Well What About The Warranty?

When I bought the first phone I bought the extra “Apple Care” warranty plan. When the phone was stolen I was told I can rollover the warranty to the new phone or get a refund on the original warranty. I chose to roll it over. Today Apple tells me that wasn’t an option and the Apple Care Rep I spoke to was misinformed. I’m still trying to get my refund on the warranty but it’s slow going. (more…)
