Archos 101 Tablet

Posted by Jesse Friedman | Posted in Technology | Posted on October 27, 2010

Update to the Archos 101 Release Date as of December 6th, 2010

You can’t find the Archos 101 on Amazon by doing a simple search but with a little sniffing I was able to find them both. Click Here for the Archos 101 8GB and here for the Archos 101 16GB. Both are on Amazon.com and have the ability to sign up for an alert when it goes on sale.

Both of the tablets are supposed to go on sale December 17th, 2010 this is from predictions I’ve read online and comments to this post.

Archos vs Apple

I’m going to preface this with, I WANT THIS!

I wanted an iPad since the day I read a rumor article on mashable about it. However like most Apple products I have owned or researched I feel like I am often deceived by the glitz and glamour.

The only product I’ve bought from Apple that I still own and am happy with is my Apple Video iPod 80 gb from about 5 years ago.

I got rid of my iPhone and went with the HTC Incredible and never looked back.

I also turned in my company iMac for a Dell Studio XPS and couldn’t be happier.

Everyone I know is buying iPads and are head over heals for them. I was defenitly on track to buy myself an iPad but after I bought the first iPhone just weeks before the 3G version came out I wanted to wait for version 2.

In my wait I’ve discovered the Archos 101 Tablet and several other Android OS tablets. It immediately dawned on me, WHY AM I GETTING AN iPAD AT ALL?

I’m a programmer and front end developer. I design websites but focus more on UX and less on Design Asethics. Apple products just scream aesthteics and tend to forget functionality. Which is why I am so happy with my Incredible over the iPhone. By no means would the Incredible win in a beauty contest over the iPhone but as far as capabilities and functionality it wins hands down.

Archos 101 Tablet

Android 101 TabletThe Archos 101 Tablet with Kickstand Archos Tablet is thinner and lighter than the iPad, has a kick stand built in and best of all has ports. You can connect usb devices directly to it, including keyboards. You can output directly to a tv with a mini hd. There is also a built in web camera. Not to mention an Android OS which means running multiple apps simultaniously and flash in the browser. The only downer is that the entire 100,000+ Android App Market isn’t available. Instead there is a 5,000 Archos Android Market.

Archos 101 Tablet Release Date

Almost every article I have read says that the Archos 101 and 70 Tablet will be released and available for purchase in mid October. Well it’s Oct 27th, 2010 so I think we’ve missed that date. However in doing some research I took a look at some of the companies ready to sell the Archos tablet and one of my favorite stores B&H Photo and Video has it available in December. I would imagine we can meet in the middle and expect it sometime in November, probably right before Thanksgiving.

Who Has Two Thumbs, A Paper Monocle, A Fake Moustache and is Speaking at FOWD?

*This Guy*

That’s right folks, your lovable neighborhood professor will be speaking at the Future of Web Design Conference, this November

I have yet to attend an FOWD Conference but I have heard so many great things about it. Soon after I decided to attend I spoke with some of the people at Carsonified and sure enough I was given the great honor of speaking on the “Rising Star Track”.

I’ll have more to come and maybe even a video spot of the talk I give. Hope to see you there.

Web Designers Idea Book Volume 2

Posted by Jesse Friedman | Posted in Technology | Posted on July 14, 2010

I’ve always wanted to write a book. To have my words published on a high quality paper, bound between two well designed covers and placed on a bookshelf at a large book store.

Well I’m on my way. After working a bit with Patrick McNeil the author of Web Designers Idea book Volume 1 and 2 (these two links to amazon are Affiliate Links but hey you can get a free one if you’d rather do that, read below), I will have some of my words published for all too see. Patrick invited me to write the chapter on Blog Design for Volume 2 of the series.

Web Designers Idea Book Volume 2
If you own Volume 1 you know the book is mostly populated by gorgeous screenshots of beautiful websites showcasing layouts and graphics done right.

So I didn’t write 10,000 words on Blog Design but more like a couple hundred. Either way I’m still proud to say that I’m apart of a fantastic book series like this.

Hopefully this will be the first step on the path of authoring.

Want A Free Copy?

I’m going to give away 2 copies of this book. 1 to my 1,000th follower on Twitter and the 2nd to a random individual. To be considered a random individual all you have to is tweet this post or retweet one of my tweets about this book.

Thanks and Good Luck!

BlueGlass Has Formed a.k.a. Voltron of the Web

Posted by Jesse Friedman | Posted in Business,Technology | Posted on June 22, 2010

3 years ago I, out of no where, decided to go to a small SEO conference in Ft. Lauderdale Flordia. Scary SEO was actually one of the best conferences and networking environments I have ever been to. The best thing was that I had made an impression on Loren, Dave and Jordan in the short time I had there. These three guys are probably the best, most active, intelligent professionals I’ve met in the 10 years in my field. They were the Search & Social crew and now they are a part of a bigger alliance of web companies known as BlueGlass.

What seems like ages ago Loren came to me and asked me to redesign and develop their blog http://searchenginejournal.com/ or SEJ as we tend to call it. It was an absolute pleasure working with these guys and I’m proud to say the redesign was a huge success.

Today everything seems to be going so right for these web pioneers. I just found out that they are joining forces with 10e20 and Brent Csutoras to form Voltron, eh.., I mean BlueGlass. (The Voltron joke was all Loren. It made me spit water all over the screen, so I use it now.)

So what does this all mean? For our clients, we can now offer our clients better return on their investments, greater options and ultimately – the ability to have one company manage all of their Internet marketing needs under one roof. – http://www.blueglass.com/news/blueglass-has-formed/

I just wanted to take this opportunity to publicly congratulate Loren, Dave and Jordan. I wish my friends the best in all future endeavours and am sure they are going to kick some serious A$$.
